Fatty Liver Highlights!
It helps in the digestion of food,
Excretes bile and bilirubin,
Stores glycogen and vitamins,
Synthesises plasma proteins,
Regulates blood clotting and
Removes toxin from the blood.
What is fatty liver?
Fatty liver is the stage when fats are accumulated in the liver. Their range can vary between 5 to 33% (grade 1), 34 to 65% (Grade 2) and above 65% is (grade 3).
What causes fatty liver?
Drinking too much alcohol (alcoholic),
Eating excess calories,
Poor metabolism of fats,
Type two diabetes,
Hepatitis B, C infections,
Inherent genetic condition,
Side effects of medications, especially steroids,
And unknown other causes.
What happens after one suffers from fatty liver?
Weight loss, pain in the abdomen, appetite loss, tiredness, nausea, gradual liver enlargement, finally it can lead to the reduction in the function of liver.
How can we prevent and control fatty liver (esp. grade 1)
Healthy life style, being more active,
Maintaining healthy body weight and waist-to-hip ratio,
Eating more of whole grains, seasonal fruits and green vegetables,
Avoiding packed sugar drinks and packed food,
Eating balanced food as in a typical Indian homemade thali,
Inclusion of a combination of pre and probiotics for good gut flora (eg. curd and rice, banana and curd),
Making a fix time table for meals (avoiding dinner after 7.30 pm),
And having a sound sleep of 7-8 hours,
Keeping yourself hydrated.
What are specific work outs so as to avoid and control fatty lever (esp. grade 1)?
Walking for 30 minutes everyday
Domestic work done traditionally (eg brooming/cleaning the floor/washing clothes etc) of course for any gender,
Yogasanas like dhanurasan, bhujang asan and mandukasan (under the guidance of tutor),
Kapalbhati and bhastrika pranayama.
